I am thrilled to share one of my biggest projects yet: five new murals for Uptown Dallas at the underpass where Katy Trail meets Cedar Springs Road. What was once a dark, dingy space has now been transformed into a colorful, welcoming landmark for the community. Each mural tells part of the Uptown story, blending local icons, wildlife, and the spirit of the neighborhood.
Mural 1: Wildflowers and the Uptown Trolley, Betty
This mural celebrates one of Uptown’s most beloved icons, the vintage trolley known as Betty. She rolls through a field of oversized Texas wildflowers with a woman looking into the distance, connecting the history of Uptown with the natural beauty of the region. This design sets the tone for the entire project, welcoming visitors with color and nostalgia.
Mural 2: Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Texas Wildflowers
Here, a shimmering ruby-throated hummingbird hovers among vibrant Texas blooms. The hummingbird’s energy and movement add life to the wall, making it feel like the flowers are buzzing with activity. It’s a reminder of the natural beauty you can find even in the middle of the city.
Mural 3: The Bike Rider
This mural features a cyclist in motion, celebrating Katy Trail’s role as one of Dallas’s favorite spots for exercise and outdoor activity. The bright colors and dynamic pose capture the momentum of Uptown life and the joy of connecting with nature on the trail.
Mural 4: The Monk Parakeet (Bird 6 of 100 in Wings Across the World)
One of my favorite additions is the Monk Parakeet, which is part of my 100 Birds Across the World mural project. These bright green parrots have become famous in Uptown thanks to the colonies that nest near power lines and trees along the trail. Including them here felt like a perfect nod to the neighborhood’s unique wildlife.
Mural 5: The Dog Walker
The final mural brings a touch of charm and community to the series. A dog owner strolls through Uptown with their pup, reminding us of the everyday moments that make this neighborhood special.
Where to Find the Murals
All five murals can be found at the underpass where Katy Trail and Cedar Springs Road meet in Uptown Dallas. Next time you are walking, biking, or driving by, be sure to stop and experience the transformation for yourself.
This project was a dream to bring to life, and I am so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. My hope is that these murals brighten commutes, spark joy, and become a lasting part of Uptown’s story.
